Last Minute Holiday Decor: Rose Gold DIY Ideas
DECK THE HALLS
Christmas is less than 2 weeks away! Where did the time go?! It feels like yesterday when we came back from our honeymoon… that was a month ago!
I was in Canadian Tire this week and I noticed that their Christmas aisles were looking pretty slim - wow! Vancouver is on it when it comes to Christmas shopping! Have you all gotten all your Christmas decor yet?
Don’t freak out if you haven’t! Here are my last minute, low-cost solutions and DIYs. Don’t forget to reuse holiday items every year to save money and the environment!
ROSE GOLD FLORALS
This time, last year, I went to Michael’s and found their entire floral decor on sale (and by on sale I mean 50% off!) I got gorgeous magnolia leaves and pinecones. This year, I got a dozen silk poinsettia stems.
Last year the magnolia leaves came in gold, but this year I wanted that pretty glow you get from rose gold. So, I found a metallic spray paint from Michael’s and sprayed them all over!
I’m so happy with the results and now I know that I can change their colour every year!
HOLIDAY WREATH
My friend, Ally, taught me how to make a very artistic, asymmetrical wreath last year. It was quite fun & I loved working with my hands - so this year, I decided to try to make a full wreath!
I made the wreath itself following similar steps to this Youtube video, but mixed it with different filler greens I found from Whole foods.
Pro tip: wear gloves! The branches can cause micro cuts - I learned that after the fact!
CHRISTMAS GARLAND ON GLASS STAIRCASE
This year I wanted to make a garland for the staircase - but there was a lot of problem solving needed! Our staircase has a glass railing and had no handle that can loop a garland through. My solution was to use removable picture hooks… and Gorilla tape!
I started off by cleaning the glass with Windex & applied the picture hooks - about 6 inches apart. You can also purchase strong magnetic hooks, but I was on a budget! On top of each hook, I reinforced it to the glass with Gorilla tape so it could hold more weight without ripping off the glass.
Then, I used a thicker decorative wire (black) and strung it through the hooks. This was used to anchor the branches & tulle. After, I started applying the tulle, where I would use floral wire to connect to the decorative wire. Then I proceeded with attaching the branches using the same floral wire to create “S” patterns to make a fluid looking garland. Topping it off with fairy lights and voila! A Christmas garland on my glass staircase!
